At Smyth’s Confectionery in Richmond, Down to Earth conducted a targeted audit of high energy using equipment. A dehumidifier was slated for replacement at a cost of $38,800, as the company had identified it was malfunctioning. Data logging by DTE identified that a simple modification to operating parameters of the equipment would improve its performance. The modification was made at modest cost and the equipment began working at full capacity again, saving the client approximately $36,000 on replacement. At Smyth’s, DTE also collected data on temperature and electricity usage to quantify savings from installing automated warehouse access doors. In this case we identified a price range that would provide suitable return on investment, to enable the company to make an appropriate purchasing decision.
